Ian Pellow

Born in Montreal in 1961, Ian grew up influenced by the music his older brother was listening to: Chicago, Zappa, the Allman Brothers, Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, and Jaco Pastorius… to name but

a few of the extensive list of quality musicians/songwriters who helped to shape Ian’s musical style and direction.

With a concert musician and music teacher as a father, Ian started playing piano at 6, trumpet at 8, guitar and bass a couple of years later. He played in the band at Howards Billings High School in Chateauguay in 1978 and went on touring Montreal with his brother and local bands. But employment took up his time and the music was put on the shelf.

In 1999 life took a turn in an unexpected direction. Ian left Ottawa to meet his Belgian life mate.

With just his fretless bass and a suitcase, he plunged into the unknown and has since emerged,

5 years later, having moved to Scotland, writing and singing like never before.

Ian bought a BR1180CD recording machine, another guitar and a keyboard and in less then 8 months produced this debut album (Marti Who) from his tiny but cosy home studio.

In August 2006 his new effort (Fruit Allures) came out under his own flag. Zapkath 02/IP/2006.

The debut album of this bass playing virtuoso is likely to pleasantly surprise you with its diversity. None of the songs seem what they are and unexpected changes take you to other dimensions.

Ian Pellow, multi-instrumentalist, has concocted an inspiring mixture of beautiful bass melodies, velvet keyboard sounds, passionate yearning rock, seasoned with a hint of exotic charm and a fragrance of

Frank Zappa, Terry Kath and Jaco Pastorius.

In short Jazz-Rock with Progressive Edges

“To be taken once a day with dimmed light, dogs, cats and ferret at your feet”

A few comments:

"I listened to your CD and threw it right on again.  It is absolutely great! I had the feeling that you were a great musician, but I am honestly overwhelmed.  I felt like being back in the 70ies with a mixture of different sounds: Santana, Yes, Allman Brothers, Little River Band, etc."

Gus – Aynimusic

“You have an album to be proud off and a talent to match!!
This is a smooth album to be enjoyed late in the evening when distractions are few and good malt whisky and books to read are plentiful...!”

Campbell Cameron – Oban FM
